Help, i have a UTI this is for females and people who know only!!?
Question:
i have symptoms for the first time in the past 2 days---it hurts when i pee but only in the end when i finish peeing, just my lower stomach hurts like if it were a REALLY bad cramp! i took uristat last night(that pill that makes your pee look awesomley orangey reddish yellow! well is that normal for uristat to work that way?). my brother in law who is a nurse and my sister who has had a UTI reccomended that i drink lots of water, take systex(i can't take strong antibiotics) and AZO(cranberry pills), have absolutley NO caffiene, no sugars, and no chocolate. if i do all of that without going to the doctor will it cure my UTI? what else can i do?
Answers:
I hate to burst your bubble, but a UTI needs antibiotics. Cystex has a weak antibiotic and that might be enough to get rid of some of it, but I don't think it will get rid of all of it. If the infection isn't gotten rid of it will move from your bladder to your kidneys where it can cause kidney failure and can move to your bloodstream where it can cause urosepsis and can kill you. It's cranberry juice, by the way, not pills, you have to drink the juice. Uristat is for the pain, not the infection, and it will turn your urine orange and will help with the symptoms, but it will NOT do anything at all for the infection.
For ways of preventing UTI's in the future, always wipe from front to back, don't take baths, take showers instead, don't have sex with any man who isn't circumcised (a lot of bacteria hangs out under the foreskin), make sure your significant other doesn't have a UTI that he isn't aware of, and make sure you drink plenty of fluids.
If you can't take strong antibiotics because of yeast infections or c. diff., try taking some probiotics ( found at drugstores and health food stores) and eat lots of yogurt while taking them.
While the treatment you've discussed may help cure your UTI, most UTIs do need an antibiotic to prevent their spread. Not all antibiotics are strong and it might be best to see a physician, especially if you continue to have symptoms. You can read more on the topic of UTI treatments at the women's site below:

Feel better : )
Drink lots of water and drink large glasses of cranberry juice. Try cranberry pills and an over-the-counter diuretic. Try to see a doctor Monday.
I have had many many uti's!! Those pills and things you are taking will cure the pain of a UTI but not cure the actual UTI. Sorry. You should def go to ur doctor! Tell her you cant take strong meds. If you put off going to the doctor you can get a really bad infection in you kidneys!! keep doing all of this but still go to your doctor. And next time u have sex pee before and after!! good luck!
UTI is a common infection.. i mean its not rare and it wont hurt you if its untreated... soo the best thing to do is to go to the doctor to give you the right antibiotics to help treat the infection.. it would most likely bad if you dont.. but what could help you prevent bacterial growth of the bacteria that caused your UTI is to drink cranberrry juice.. im studying as a nurse, and its best to take your infections as a high priority before anything else bad happens
I get them all the time hun and you have no choice but to go to the dr and get an antibiotic. It's good that you are taking Uristat though. The chocolate and sugar thing I have never heard of. I get kidney stones all the time so I feel your pain. I hope you get better.
