Tampon's don't work well with water?

Question:
uhg, ok so I got invited TWICE today to go swimming. I'm on my period, and I just started wearing tampons...but when i think about it, tampon's don't really help when you're swimming at a friends house...cuz I'd only wanna wear mine for 2 hours, or else past that I start getting worried...and whenenver i swim at someone's house, we always swim past 2 hours, and I can't just say, "oh hold on i gotta change my tampon!" first of all, that's embarrassing, second of all, I need a mirror (i use down below) in order to put in a tampon, and I don't want them to see my carrying a mirror and a tampon in my hand?? Plus, if i did go swimming with a tampon in, im always worried the string would get pushed up back into the "opening", and it would get stuck, or the string would get tucked in somewhere, and I wouldn't be able to find it? uhg, this is so frustrating, it's like 90 degrees here, and Im still worried to go swimming! ahh...please help with some advice!

(sorry it's so long)

Answers:
you sound a bit paranoid.. if you have sooo many problems, maybe your not ready for tampons.. as for the embarrassment factor..its a part of life!! u just excuse yourself and bring your purse with you to the potty! easy as that!
you dont have anything to worry about if you wear a tampon past 2 hours. if you are worried about it i can guarantee that if you wear it for 4 hours you will not leak..as for the mirror thing all you have to do is put like a compact mirror or something and a tampon in your bag and just carry the whole bag to the bathroom to change, if there are guys there im sure they wont even notice at all,if your friends are girls im sure they wouldnt notice either..and if anyone says anything like why do you have your bag with you just say bc or something and just keep going...lol...hope i helped hun

p.s. and remember all girls go though this
GO SWIMMING! You'll be okay. If you are worried about leaking after 2 hours, then use a tampon with more absorbency. If you are worried about TSS and don't want to wear one for more than 2 hours, don't. You can safely wear one for 4 - 6 hours. And, if you must change your tampon, carry a bag with a small mirror and your tampons. Girls know you menstruate, we understand. As for the mirror, just put it in a bag and noone will know.

Good Luck!
First of all it sounds like you are not inserting it up enough for water not to get to it- secondly you should only wear tampons for a short time, you can get toxic shock syndrome which begins with a headache and you land pretty ill.
Secondly spending 2 hours in a pool for anyone is no good- I guess your friends don't take pee breaks? They just go in the pool? You take your purse or small bag and you have to use the ladies room, you go freshen up and come back- simple as that.
You fear not finding the string? It is at the bottom of the tampon, dont have to go far to find it.
Don't worry. First off the tampon WILL NOT get lost inside of you. It's impossible. I actually tuck the string up inside myself because I hate the feeling of it dangling. If you push it inside of you a bit, it will not get lost and it will not come out either. If you are heavy then wear a super tampon and that should hold you two to four hours. All you need to do is bring you a purse with your tampons, mirror and whatever else inside it and when you get to feeling nervous, excuse yourself to go to the restroom (in privacy, no one will see) Also they shouldn't think anything about you excusing yourself to the restroom, I am sure they don't want anyone urinating in their pool. You will be fine, just don't stress too much and realize it's a part of life and almost every female will go through it at some point.
There is no need to worry about not changing the tampon after exactly two hours. Plus, the string will not disappear into your vagina. Trust me.

I'm 39 years old, have worn tampons since about age 14. I've gone swimming multiple times while wearing a tampon. Have gone to waterparks while wearing one.

You'll be fine. ENJOY yourself. :)
