Yes your blood will be red. There may not be any signs, and if there are, you may not recognize them because you're not used to them.
Here are some signs:
some girls get really emotional due to increase of hormones right before.
cramps: stomach and lower back hurts
you get sick at you stomach
(very few people ever have this) passing out or throwing up
that ***certain*** area (where the blood come from)...of your body hurts...
I know, periods can be kinda scary at first, and people tend to start between the ages 9-13, so just keep some period supplies onhand at your house and you'll be fine!

When I first start I get cramps and I get discharge before I actually start bleeding. You may have tenderness in your breast as well.
It can be any color from pink to brown. Sometimes we get cramps before it starts. Or moody about a week before.
i had a sign and still do. i just got mine about 4 or so months ago. my sign was this nasty whitish stuff that was in the toilet after i went pee. the blood will be red. but if you dont wipe all of it away, the blood gets dark red. it is fine, its just old. dont freak out or anything if your period stops for a month or too after your first. im going through that. get used to it. youll have it for a while. : )
my first period blood was brown...and there were no such signs...

No, in fact, it can be varying shades from your very first cycle straight through to menopause. Some women notice the discharge changing when they ovulate and then changing again just before their period.
