It's the hormonal imbalance. You start around the same time every month, sometimes some women start like clockwork regardless of their flow. Anyway, here's what happened to me. When I took birth control, which is supposed to regulate your period, it made my period heavier and longer. I tried many different kinds of hormone treatments to regulate my period, but it made it worse every time. It also doesn't help that I have PCOS. So, I take diabetes meds to regulate the pain and swelling associated with my problem. I don't have diabetes, but that's what works. So, the bottom line is: everyone has a different balance of hormones which means that hormone treatments won't always work the way they're intended to. Any time you place additional hormones in your body, there's always the risk of the treatment backfiring. It's a trial and error process.
Go to the doctor and tell him/her what's going on and that you're bothered. Work together with the doc to find a treatment that's right for you.
