What tests did you have to take when being diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome?
Question:
Answers:
When I was diagnosed they just ran a bunch of blood tests to check my hormonal levels. I had so many cysts that they could feel them just from an external exam, but they ran the tests to make sure.
Other tests they usually run include an ultrasound of your ovaries to check for cysts.
edit: I also forgot to mention they tend to run blood sugar and insulin tests as blood sugar problems go hand-in-hand with PCOS. I'm now on metformin as a precaution so I don't become a diabetic.
Unfortunately, there's not one test to diagnosis PCOS. As a syndrome it's typically a combination of symptoms that after eliminating other causes falls under PCOS. Also, if having a laparoscopy or abdominal surgery the surgeon often will inspect your ovaries to see if there are any signs of polycystic ovaries... this is usually an instant confirmation of the condition.
I have PCOS along with endometriosis and the conditions often accompany each other. There is more information on PCOS and the symptoms at www.pcosupport.org.
Good luck!
