yep, if you go to a gynacologist regularly she'll tell you you need it done... better safe than sorry!
How old are you? Yes you are supposed to have a pap once a year, whether sexually active or not depending on your age.
That depends. They say to come in as soon as you become sexually active, but I went when I was 18 and they said to wait until I was 20. Something about when you are young your cells are changing rapidly and can show symptoms of diseases you don't have.
Hi there,
Being in the medical profession, I STRONGLY suggest getting a pap smear done. When you have sexual intercourse, you open up the door to many infections and diseases that can harm your reproductive system, not to mention some that can take away your ability to reproduce.
It is important that you follow up each year as a preventative method to halt any problems that you may have later on down the road.
Hope this helps,
Kelly McBride, RDMS
Some doctors recommend a pap test at eighteen whether sexually active or not, but most strongly recommend one every year after you start having sex even with only one person, because technically, when you have sex with a guy, you are contacting any potential diseases (especially HPV, the disease that causes cervical cancer.)
Pap smears test for cervical cancer, and you should start getting them within 3 years of sexually activity or age 21. If you are worried about STDs, you should get a pap smear and blood tests done.
Yes, as soon as you become or decide to become sexually active you should have your first gynecologist exam.
