This exam should cause only minor discomfort.
There may be slight discomfort when the catheter is placed and the contrast material is injected, but it should not last long. There may also be slight irritation of the peritoneum, causing generalized lower abdominal pain, but this should also be minimal and not long lasting.
but I also read somewhere else that it can also cause some cramping. I hope you will be fine.
I had this procedure done and all I experienced was some slight cramping during the procedure... it really wasn't bad, though. My sister, on the other hand, thought it was barbaric and had a lot of pain with it (cramping)... I have heard more people have no trouble with it than trouble, so I think that you will do just fine... it doesn't take very long.. about 5-10 minutes, you are under a sort of xray machine and the doctor will insert a small tube into your uterus (may feel a little pinch), then as he is inserting the dye he can examine what is going on with the xray... this is the part that might give you slight cramping... just remember, it will be over quickly and after that you will be good to go... Good Luck!
