How long did it take for your period to become regular after getting off birth control?

Question:
I got off my birth control pills on May 27, 2007. I started my period on or around the 30th of May. The next month, my period started on the 28th. So, around a 30 day cycle. It is now day 30 of this cycle, and so far no period. I had an irregular cycle before I started on birth control in November 2004. I am pretty healthy, normal weight and no STDs or any problems that would affect my lady parts.

My husband and I had unprotected sex on day 13, 15, 17 and 20 of my cycle.

I have had some cramps, a tad bit of nausea (which I am blaming on my multivitamin) and some pain around my breasts. Today I also had some more discharge (clear with a tad bit of white) than normal from my private areas. I took a pregnancy test on Friday morning but it was completely negative.

Any advice? How long did it take for your period to return to normal after getting off the pill? Is this normal?

Answers:
If you didn't have regular cycles before you started the pill, I wouldn't expect you to have regular cycles when you come off it again. The pill doesn't miraculously fix your natural cycles, it just overrides them while you are taking it. You body may have changed during the time you have been taking the pills, so it could have righted itself, but if you were over 24 and still had irregular cycles then I'd expect that you will still have irregular cycles now.
my periods have never been regular - they always surprise me.
i had to go on the pill to make them regular but since it has too many side effects i decided to not take anything
