What you're experiencing now is actually your first period. Sometimes a discolored (red or brown tinted) discharge starts before the actual period...be thankful if it stays this way...it is this way for me and it is a warning that it is coming. Some women get no warning and end up not being prepared.

When I was that age, it came sporadically, with the discharge, the spottiness, and all. It looks to be the overture for what is to come. The blood may come and go. It's just another puberty awkwardness thing. As I remember (it's been about 10 years) when it started for me, it took a few months until my body figured out what was up. Then it came regularly. Wear a panty-liner meant for all-day, so that if you do spot or leak again, you'll catch it in the liner and save your underwear. Did it cramp any? Feel queasy? For a piankiller, do NOT take aspirin, as this may cause blood problems with girls your age. Ask your mum what she did, as that may ease fears and curiosity.
