Mirena Coil Advice Needed?

Question:
i got my coil fitted last friay after my impant went a bit mad, (heavy erratic bleeding etc) and dont know if the stuff im feeling is normal? I threw up with the pain as soon as it was put in and couldnt sleep friday night due to stabbing pains in left side, got checked at the hospital who said it appeared fine (no perforations etc). A week on, im still in pain, feel like there's pressure on my bowel and pain like period cramp. I had my left ovary and fallopian tube removed years ago and wonder if thats anything to do with it. Really just need to know if this is normal and will settle down or if i should get it removed. Thanks

Did you talk to the doctor that inserted it? I think if I was still in pain after that long I would decide this wasn't for me and tell them to get it the heck out. I wouldn't wait in case there was something wrong. Perhaps they scratched you inside when inserting and you may be developing major infection...call your doctor and see him asap or go to a different hospital. Just because it is inserted right doesn't mean there is nothing wrong in there.
I have one of these fitted, and I get pain (bad cramps) on the left hand side once a month for a day or maybe 2.
I would go back to the doctor who fitted it. It probably will settle down, but I wouldn't have thought you should still be in bad pain a week on.
Get it taken out if you are still in pain in one weeks time as I found this pain only gets worse. I had a coil put in which I believe wasn't put in correctly even though it looked fine etc and over the course of six months the pain got worse and worse until I couldn't bear it anymore. I have had three coils in total and neither of the other two caused any problems for me at all but the vomiting, pain which caused me to be doubled over etc ... get it taken out and stick with what works for you.
I have Mirena and did not have any pain with it at all. I do get pains on my right side every now and then but nothing to severe. I would call the Dr who inserted it for advice. I hope you can hang in there and get passed all this because I love having mine.
Sorry tae be a spoilsport, but my friend had the Mirena coil fitted and suffered pains almost from day one. The doc said it was nothing to worry about, but after months of pain she ended up in hospital. The coil had worked it's way into her insides and she ended up having to have a major surgery (loads of stitches) to retreive it, as they could not reach it via the normal passage!! She is still fighting a legal battle for compensation, as she was not protected during this time!!
i think you should have it removed it sounds like its not fitted properly. I have one and got cramps for 1 day and nothing since.
I had one fitted last November and had bad cramps for a while but then it stopped and no periods at all just a bit of spotting every now and again.
However I am having it removed next week as I have put on stone half in weight, my fingers, ankles and face are puffed like a blow fish, headaches, sickness, loose bowels, spots all over my face, dandruff and very bad itchey skin my Gp said it is not suiting me and needs to come out.

I do not think that having ovary and tube removed has caused this some the pain does last longer but go back and have it re checked if your gut instincts tell you it is not right it is not right! I knew this coil was not right in me within a month but doctor insisted it stayed in saying symptoms are normal and will get better they have not they are 100 times worst and roll on wednesday to getting it out.
it should settle down hon i was in pain for about 2 weeks with it and had eratic bleeding just keep taking pain killers and rest a hot water bottle against ur tummy and if it gets any worse go straight to ur doctor, good luck xxx
I have had mine for nearly 2 years and love it. However my friend has to have hers taken out as it has caused her discomfort and irregular bleeding, I would ring your gp for advice as I certainly didn't get that level of discomfort when I had it fitted. Good luck.
Hello,

I would call and talk to your doctor ASAP. I have had Mirena for 3 weeks now. The first 3 days were a nightmare - excruciating pain, vomiting, dizziness and headache. It all went away though within the first week. I was told that minor cramping within the first 3 months is normal. BUT, if it is really bad then go back to your doctor. Have them do an vaginal ultrasound to make sure that it is still in place. They did a regular ultrasound on me and it showed the IUD was in place but then they did a vaginal ultrasound and it showed that one of the arms hadn't extended and they had to take the IUD out and replace it with a new one. Also, some women's bodies just can't handle the IUD. I have another friend who did great, no cramping or bleeding and another who had to get it out right away. Good luck, I hope it all works out for you.
Had mine fitted nearly 8 months ago and the only pain I had was when it was fitted. I can't say if your pain is normal but if I was you I'd go and see the doctor.
