My wife needs some help...?

Question:

My wife woke up a few days ago with the right outer side of her vagina swollen and there was a lump also on the outside, more towards her leg. Now a few days later, there is still a lump and it is still red/purpleish and swollen. She told me it hurt a little but there was no other side affects. We tried heat and cold compresses but it seems like it is not helping. We havent had intercourse about two weeks prior to seeing this so we are kind of ruling it out. Can you help us figure out what this is and how to treat it? We would like to see a doctor but we dont have insurance. Much appreciated for the help, thank you.

It can be a Bartholin cyst or abscess. She needs to go to the doctor so they can prescribe something or drain the cyst. I do recommend Planned Parenthood or a free clinic or even the ER (if she wants to go there).

Pimple, boil, bug bite, either way it sounds infected. She can go to Planned Parenthood, they charge on a sliding scale.

I think i have the answer to this question.. my teacher told me about in the eighth grade. Your wife might have genital herpes that spread to your legs too. It is caused by sexual contact.. you must see a doctor immediately,, you can also have it if you touch her.

It doesn't sound like any sort of STD, but more like a boil or an ingrown hair that has gotten infected. Shaving can cause them as well as clothing that rubs against the skin. They can also occur for no reason at all. I would put some neosporin on it and if it doesn't look better in 24 hours I would just bit the bullet and see a doctor. She might need an oral antibiotic , she may need to have it lanced. Good luck.
