For Doctors/Pharmacists: Can I start birth control at any time?

Question:
I don't get regular periods and it could be a month or so before I get another one. I recently got birth control and would like to start it ASAP, without having to wait for my period. I've read all the information that comes with the pills and it was all fully explained to me, except what starting them at a "random" time would do for thier effectiveness or if it would be harmful. Since I have such an irregular cycle anyway it seems like it would almost help instead of harm. If you answer I'd like to know where your information comes from, please. I've heard alot of opinions but just one credible answer would be a lot of help.

Answers:
YES. You can start it at any time, but please do not have unprotected sex for at least two weeks (a month if possible). But yes, you can. Know that if you start in the middle of your cycle, it's going to change - so you may get spotting during that month, and at the end of the pill pack it may not come at all. So be prepared to give yourself three months to get your body on track, and know that with the pill, your cycle is going to change over the next year/two, so be ready for it.
i have a friend who says that she might start birth control so that she can control it && be able to go swimming without having to use a tampon but she has to get blood work done just to make sure its safe for her to use
maybe you should do the same
