When should a young girl start going to a GYN?

Question:
My daughter is only 10, but is starting to show physical signs of development. She has not started menstrating yet.

Answers:
I think that from an educational standpoint its a good idea for teens to see a gynecologist at around the time they start to menstruate.

The doctor can teach your daughter how to perform breast self-exams, teach her about proper sexual protection (because like it or not, teens DO become sexually active!!), answer any questions she might have that she's too embarrassed to ask you or someone else and it will also allow her to become accustomed to the medical environment and not feel threatened by it.

PLEASE stress the fact that her visit will be a physical and FAQ/chat session, NOT a pelvic exam (which would freak any girl at any age if she's going for non-problematic reasons), and let her know that if she's having ANY sort of gynecological problems, this is how things work.

BTW, a recent report in the Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics encourages pubescent visits to the gynecologist for just the reasons I outlined. Its never too early for a person (male OR female!) to learn to take care of themselves - eventually there won't be anyone that will take care of your daughter EXCEPT her!
Maybe you should wait until she has her period :)
As long as she is not sexually active she does not need to see a GYN until she becomes active or turns 21.
i think she should go once she starts her period or you think she is mentally mature to have sex. don't underestimate what she could be doing, kids these days do things at young ages. but also i would talk to her, see if she is comfortable going to see a GYNO. i think personally 10 is too young.
wait till shes at least 12 or having her period
I would not take her to a gyn in tell after she has started her period I don't think that you should be worried it sound like she is just growing at a early age.
Well, I never saw the gyno until after intercourse (which was before age 18). I hear recommendations of seeing the gyno for the pap smear after first intercourse or after age 18 for the yearly paps.

And for stuff other than that, I guess if she was having problems, like lack of menses and stuff.
when i was little i had went when i was like 5years old. idk i guess my mom wanted to make sure im okay down there
Just wait until she starts her period, who knows it may be sooner rather than later, but theres no need to, just give her a talk now about her menstrual cycle, so then when she does start she won't be scared to tell you and she'll know whats going on so then you can make her an appt, also you could ask her if shes having discharge because most people before they start their period for the first time has discharge for about a month before,
