What could it mean if my teenager is having menstrual cycles every 2 weeks for only 2 days?

Question:
My 14 yr old has been on her period since she was 12. For the last 6 months she has been having periods every 2 weeks and they last only 2 days. What could this mean?

Answers:
It could mean any number of things. Her body could still be trying to regulate her menstral cycles, or something else could be going on. You should make an appointment for her to see a gynecologist so they can figure out why she is having her periods every two weeks.
It means you should take her to a gynecologist and have her checked out.
It could be a problem, or it could be nothing. To find out, you'll have to take her to a doctor. At her age, her body is still developing. It's possible that even after 2 years, her menstrual cycles haven't settled down into a set pattern. The doctor will probably want to know if they were regular before this started happening. My guess is that the doctor will suggest using birth control pills to stop the periods from coming so often.
