Pelvic ultrasound?

Question:
I'll be getting a pelvic ultrasound tomorrow. It'll be my very first time getting one of those and I'm a little frightened. What should I expect to happen?

Answers:
Hi Sweetie,

It's really very painless. They do it two ways... over the abdomen or vaginally. Neither one of them hurt. Which way they go depends on what they're looking for. is it a reproductive issue, then probably vaginally. If it's your gallbladder, stomach, kidneys, bladder...then over the abdomen. They just take the probe and have a look see.

It's pretty easy and shouldn't take more than 10 mins or so.

Good luck and no worries... it will be over before you know it.
I just had one yesterday! It doesn't hurt at all. They insert an instrument into your vagina (it looks just like a curling rod) and rotate it around to take pics. The only thing you feel is a little pressure - but it's not a big deal. No problem!
It's not bad at all. When I had one, they did an internal one to rule out endometriosis. I went into a room and put on a paper gown and laid down on a table/bed. Then a female tech came into the room and put a blanket over my stomach and legs. She then handed ME the ultrasound probe (which was about the size of a tampon) and asked me to put it inside me. Then she put a long handle on it, stood next to me, put her hand on my abdomen so she could feel and control it and watched on a tv screen while she did the ultrasound. Then when it was over, she took her long handle off, left the room and I took out and disposed of the ultrasound head that had been in me. Not bad at all and no pain at all.
What are you having the ultrasound for? Pregnancy? Fibroids? Cysts? I've had ultrasounds for all of those. Depending on the situation, you may need to drink 24-32 ounces of water and finish the water about 30 minutes before the ultrasound.

You may need to remove your clothing below your waist. You'll lay back on a table and the technician will spread some gel over your tummy. Then the tech will turn the lights off. Then the tech will use a wand on your tummy and it will send the images to a computer.

If it's a vaginal ultrasound, it's pretty similar. Instead of on your tummy, a thin wand is covered with a condom, then covered in lube and inserted into the vagina. This will also send images to the computer.

The images are 2d and kind of like x-rays.

Try not to worry. It turned out that I didn't have fibroids or cysts. The ultrasounds confirmed. Good luck!

Regards.
The tech will take you to the exam room which will be dimly lit (so she can see the US screen) and she will ask you a few questions, then leave the room while you undress from the waist down. Once the tech comes back in, she'll ask you to lie back and put your feet in the stirrups, she'll place a condom on the ultrasound wand and ask you to guide it into your vagina. You are covered from the waist down with a sheet. Once you've guided the wand in, she'll take over and gently examine your uterus, ovaries, uterine lining and anything else that might be there ex: fibroids, polyps, etc. The whole procedure is painless and takes less than 30 minutes. Hope this helps!
the worst thing will be if you have to do it with a full bladder. that was the worst part to me. but the instrument it very smooth and thin so it is no problem. and it only takes a couple of minutes.

oh yeah and just when I thought I was gonna get to go pee I had to wait to see if the pictures took LOL but it wasn't bad. and they took a sheet and covered me so I wasn't all exposed.
I had quite a few during my second pregnancy, they dont hurt at all, it just feels like something is inside you, its not even as uncomfortable as a pap, good luck
