What is in my vagina?
Question:
Answers:
You really shouldn't have to douche at all--the vagina is self cleaning and douches can actually dry it out & disrupt the normal flora (bacteria). Some people douche if they have an infection of after their period to clean out the debris.
it's supposed to clean bacteria on the walls of your vagina, but its actually best not to use a douche. the vagina is a self-cleaner and doesnt need any extra help from a douche.
You vagina cleans itself especially during that time of the month. Dont' douche cause it messes with your vaginal flora also dont use any soap in the vagina just rinse thoroughly with water.
The vagina is a self-cleaning part of the human anatomy. As long as you're healthy, there's no need to use douches to "clean" it. In fact, by doing so you can disrupt the normal balance of what's supposed to be in there and actually increase your risk of having problems.
The secretions inside a healthy vagina are mostly made up of mucus, the same substance that moistens the inside of your nose and mouth. The exact amount and consistency varies throughout the month. If it's clear, slightly whitish, or pale yellow, that's normal. This is normal and healthy, and does not need to be removed with a douche.
If the discharge is bright yellow or greenish or lumpy, that indicates some kind of problem. It may be a bacterial infection or a yeast infection. Using a douche will not cure this. Only medications (over-the-counter for yeast infections, prescription from a doctor for bacterial infections) will solve the problem.
Some women use douches after sexual intercourse because they think it will wash their partner's semen out and prevent pregnancy. Almost immediately, however, sperm begin to swim higher up into the woman's reproductive tract than the douche reaches. The only effective way to prevent pregnancy is to always use an effective form of birth control, such as condoms or prescriptions like birth control pills or other prescribed options, or of course to not have sexual intercourse.
Another reason women use douches is to clean up any residual blood after the last day of their menstrual periods. The woman's body will naturally clean itself out, though, so it's still not necessary.
The vagina naturally contains a certain level of bacteria and yeast, and it's supposed to. It's normal and healthy, just like everyone's digestive tract contains bacteria that are necessary for proper digestion! Douching can upset the balance between them, and lead to one growing too much and causing problems. Additionally, douches that contain anything other than water or saline (salt water made to match the natural saltiness of the human body) can irritate the sensitive tissue in this area.
Lots of women do it, and it's obviously not so dangerous that it will kill you, but lots of women don't and it's not necessary in any way. Keep the outside of your body clean by bathing regularly, see a doctor if you have any problems, and trust mother nature to take care of the every day maintenance this part of your body needs!
