What are the pros and cons to having a hysterectomy?
Question:
Answers:
a hysterectomy for fibroids would leave the ovaries. My friend had it done and has no regrets
I kept having cysts on my ovaries grow back and eventually had a hysterectomy even though I was under 30 and divorced and hoping to find someone and have more children. I was tired of the operations and long recoveries and couldn't keep taking 8 weeks off work every 18 months.
At first I took hormone replacement patches which helped. I did go off them in several years because my Mom's breast cancer was hormone caused. The worse thing was the hot flashes. Just make sure you have plenty of loose cool clothing to wear. Tell hubby to get used to air conditioning even in winter or you opening the windows on cold nights - he can have the extra covers! Other than that it wasn't too bad. I certainly didn't miss the pain or the monthly periods.
14 years later I seem done with the hot flashes and night sweats - I guess my body went through it's normal menopause and I'm now "free". The hormone inbalance however did cause depression so keep an eye out for signs and don't take offense if anyone mentions it to you - go see your doctor and you can get meds to rebalance the chemicals in your brain & body.
Other than the fact I had wanted more children but was just so tired of the constant surgeries, I'd say overall it was a positive experience.
Good Luck
a few draw backs they claim it will not cause a change in life but it does cranky all the time swelling and weight gain very hard to get enjoyment out of the husband and wife things back pains might even go through several times of thinking you are pregnant breast tender like you got when pregnant only worse look at neutered and spade animals but if you want no more children or periods a good way to go but stile will not protect from disease.
