It's dangerous to smoke on birth control - smoking narrows your arteries & veins and thus making it easier for blood to clot.

Since smoking is dangerous to begin with, since there is an increased risk of lung cancer, emphesyma, etc... then one should quit even if they aren't going to take the pill.
