Can the mirena IUD come out from period?
Question:
My wife just found out she is pregnant which was, and still is, a shock to me because we are going through a divorce. Even more so is the fact that she had an IUD placed back in March or April of this year. She says she had a heavy period and she thought she felt it afterwards.
I am not going to go into the full reasons why, but I remember her OBGYN telling us that it would not come out from a period. And, the few months afterwards she had real lite periods.
I would just like to know if anyone here knows if an IUD can come out on its own from period or does it have to be physically removed?
Answers:
I have never known a mirena to come out during a period.
It is Highly unlikely, maybe a doctor took it out.
i would say its pretty hard to come out. and if it would there would def. be a lot of bleeding. you said she had a heavy period...i would look in to that, even if it did, it could cause some trauma to the uterus and cause risk for a spontanous abortion or miscarrage from the damage from the iud coming out.
I think she would have more than known if it had come out during her period. There would be no "thinking" it would be knowing. The device looks like nothing a period would produce. It's plastic. She would have had to call her doctor, so there is doubting what had happened. That is a hard story to believe.. It can become dislodged. It is not impossible to get pregnant on the IUD or from any other form of bc. I had a friend who got pregnant 2 months after giving birth using mirena. It is also pretty common to have a lite period or 2 in the begining of a pregnancy.
An IUD can expel itself that alone could have been what caused the bleeding and it was not actually a period. My doctor said that my IUD is trying to expel itself and that is what is causing my cramps & bleeding. She would have known if it came out though and she would have had to go to the doctor about it.
