Should i go to the gyno or the normal doctors office?

Question:
Hi. Ive never been to a gyno dr. before and im 18. About weeks ago i had sex w/o a condom. Ive never been w anyone else and i dont think he has either. The past week ive been really itchy down there and i dont know whats wrong. At first I thought i had a uti bc i was having really bad pains in my uterus area. But then it became itchy and today the "lips" look a little swolen and red. And inside of them (that area) is very sore and a little swolen. I dont know whats wrong. I was thinking maybe a bad yeast infection (ive never had one b4), or maybe vaginosis (not sure if that is what its called). What do u think? And i dont know which dr. to go to the gyno or my regular dr. I dont want my mom to know. So what do u think?? And what do u need to "sign up" for the gyno dr.? sry this is kinda dumb. lol thankyou!!

Answers:
Tell your mother, but work around it.

Tell her that it is time that you see a gyno, as you are 18 and need a pap smear or other kinds of tests, as early detection of things can lead to a long, healthy life
go to gyno now
deffinatley go to the ob/gyn...it could be a very bad infection because alot of times if a guy fingers a girl they can get infections as bacteria lies underneath their fingernails, but it could also be an std...plz go get checked, it dosent sound good
You better see the gyno....you might have an S T D...you don't need anything special to go to one ...pretty much just bring your $! Good Luck..and always always always WITH a condom, especially this day and age..
If you've never been to a gyno. before then now is definately the time for it. It sounds like a severe yeast infection, but besides that it is a good idea for women your age to start going once a year for annual visits to the gyn. to do pap smears and other annual tests.
go to a GP
it seems like candida infection
Yeast infections usually have whitish discharge along with itching. You are 18 ! Go to the Gyno, you are old enough. They shouldn't be able to say anything to your Mom if you don't want them to--it's privileged info cause you are 18. And PLEASE, don't have unprotected sex, trust me on this !! You don't want a baby now, and you don't want STD's either. Good luck !!
It's not a dumb question. If you're currently seeing a female doctor, she'll know what to do. If she can't properly assess the situation she will refer you to a gyno. That way you don't have to confront your mother about the situation. Usually, at least this is how it works with my insurance, you need a referral from your regular doctor to see a gynecologist so if you mother usually takes care of that stuff she might need to be involved.

If I were you I'd just say that I'm itchy down there and you've been reading up and you think you got a yeast infection. You can get yeast infections without being sexually active so hopefully she won't ask you any details...
Its not a dumb question :)
I would see a gynecologists.
Since you don't want your mom to know & you are 18, you could go to Planned Parenthood.
They can set you up with free birth control, check ups & STD & pregnancy testing.
The quicker you react, if there is something wrong, the quicker it can be treated before it gets any worse.
They are really good at getting you appts. & the people there are really nice.

Everything will be ok :)
It sounds like you *could* have a yeast infection or bacterial infection of some kind, but often STDs will exhibit the same symptoms.

If you're 18, you need to start having a yearly gynecological exam, anyways, so tell your mom that you want to be responsible for your reproductive health and start getting pap smears. You can call your "regular" doctor for a recommendation for an OB/Gyn, if you want to, but other than that you can just call any gynecologist and make an appointment. Just like any new doctor they will probably ask you about your medical history, your family history, your insurance information, as well as some personal information. Try to get in as soon as possible. If you have to, you could go to a Planned Parenthood; they don't just offer pregnancy option services and birth control, they are a sound gynecological resource as well!
