The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about the different kinds and get her recommendation.
Pills that are good for someone here may not be as good for you. Doctors take into account your general health, things like whether you have PMS or not, whether you smoke, your age, your weight, and other things to decide what is best for each individual person. There may be other factors that go into deciding whether some of the newer pills that allow you to have fewer periods are, also.
Yasmin is what I take. I used to take Tri-something but it wasnt too dependable. Yasmin helps your cramps and shorten your cycle.
Nuvaring - don't have to worry about pills at all.
What works well for one person is not necessarily going to be a good choice for another. BCPs are as individual as the person taking them, because they interact with your PERSONAL hormones and body chemistry.
My only strong recommendation would be to stay away from any of the tri-phasics (i.e., Ortho 7-7-7, Tri-Cyclen, etc) because the pills are made of different chemicals every weeks, which can contribute to mood swings, acne, irregular bleeding etc. I would recommend asking for a mono-phasic.
I'm not on a pill, I'm on NuvaRing, and I would recommend it to anyone. Not having to worry about a patch rolling off of my skin when I'm not paying attention and not worrying about having to take a pill at the same exact time every day is what makes this method so wonderful.
I would say that this method is a bit more expensive than pills; my prescription each month, without insurance (birth control isn't covered by my plan) is about $43.
Orthocept or Ortho Tricyclen. I do NOT recommend using Yaz.I got pregnant on that last christmas and had to terminate the pregnancy. It is a low dose pill and obviously doesn't work for me.
Microgynon 30, can't think of any side effects part from nausea the first day or two of taking it, and my breasts grew a bit!
NuvaRing! It's way better then any pill you have to take everyday at the same time. I was on ortho novum 135 and it gave me high blood pressure in one arm..So i switched to the nuva ring and have been on it for about two years now, i absolutly love it!
People say oh that's discusting i don't want to stick something up my vagina, but i don't have a problem with it because it's normal, that's what people do with tampons.
