How was it your first time, and what brand do you reccomend? Also does it hurt/feel uncomfortable? The thing im worried about the most if forgetting to take it out, and ive heard of some shock your body can go in too.
So any advice would be so helpful :]

Toxic Shock Syndrome is very rare.

I'd recommend the plain old Tampax (NOT Pearl). The first time it may be a little bit uncomfortable, but you will get used to the sensation.
for a first timer i'd say the OB brand, they're tiny but really work and there's not applicator to mix you up or confuse you but you do have to use ur finger to get it up there, haha. anyways good luck you'll love tampons :P
oh yeah and yeah the shock thing like never happens, very rare and trust me you wont forget to take it out, theres a little string that reminds you cuz you see it everytime you go pee :P
oh yeah again, one more tip only wear one during the heavy flow times, if it's towards the end of ur period and it only comes a little here and there don't risk putting one in because they can hurt coming back out if they're not full so just wear a pantyliner. and thats another thing if you think it's time to take it out but then you try to take it out and it kinda hurts a bit leave it alone because it's not full, it'll come out smooth no worries when it needs too.
oh yeah if you do wanna use an applicator tho the best tampons i've found are the regular tampax pearl, super comfy and they have a little scent to them.
You won't forget to take it out. It is safe to wear a tampon for up to 8 hours. I like Tampax Pearl. They are the most comfortable. Sometimes I can feel it a little bit and sometimes I can't, but it's much more comfortable than a pad. I really like them now.
Well personally I prefer tampax pearl. They smell fresh, they are soft, and pretty compfortable. The first time I tried it , it was weird haveing something in there, but the next day it wasn't so bad and I have used them eversince.
I think you're worried about toxic shock syndrome and that is rather rare.
All the tampons come with instructions. Read them and you'll be fine. I would start with the slender sized ones and get a brand name like Tampax. Generic ones are not as good, especially the applicators. So start with a brand name.
It's a logical question to ask for someone who hasn't used them.
playtex is best because it comes with an applicator. dont be scared, my best friend is scared of them and it sucks for her too becuase she cant go swimming a lot and its really embarassing... and its hard to forget to take it out because when u go to the bathroom, thats when u should change it. If you have any more trouble, i would talk to your mom about it.
good luck!
Tampons are a little uncomfortable when you first start using them. You will get used to it after a while. I would recommend that you buy the small or teen sized tampons. I think playtex and ob are the two best brands. For you I'd recommend playtex w/plastic applicators. They come in extra slender sizes that would be more comfortable for you while you're learning to use them. Good luck.
Playtex Gentle Glide.
Because its not cardboard on the outside, it goes in a lot smoother and more comfortable. You can hardly feel it going in. Read the instructions (there are always instructions inside the box) carefully and it shouldn't hurt at all.
If you have a heavy flow, I suggest using a pad with the tampon just in case you get leaks.
Remember that you shouldn't leave one in longer than 8 hours. That's why I dont use them when I sleep.
Good Luck! You have nothing to worry about!
You will not forget, you have up to eight hours, but by then it will probably be leaking. I wouldn't use them unless you have to. Its a little weird at first, but you get used to it quickly.
i would recommend platex plastic applicator slender. get a multi pack the first time and see how much absorption you need. read the directions twice. relax it may feel a little uncomfortable at first but you will get used to it fast. as for forgetting in school change at lunch, and right before and after. they have done allot to lessen the dangers now so don't worry.
I was the same way. But once I started using them.I can honestly NEVER imagine EVER going back. It makes that time of the month SO much better.
I recommend for your first time (and its all I use I love these) Tampax Cardboard Applicators. If you put it in all the way it will not hurt or feel weird. After you put it in when you stand up if it hurts or you feel pain, its not in all the way.just try it again. Don't be worred about shock or not taking it out. You'll remember and if you don't those cases of toxic shock aren't likely so don't worry and GOODLUCK!
I started wearing tampons the day after I started my period for the very first time! I can't imagine periods w/out them now. I recommend Playtex gentle-glide. I have never forgotten to take mine out. I just take note of the time I put it in, and make sure I take it out in 8 ours less (NO more than 8 hours!)
You asked "how was it your first time?"
My first time- I put it in correctly... but didn't know I was supposed to take the hard-plastic off of the tampon itself after I put it in... needless to say, the basketball game I attended that night was rather uncomfortable. I am more experienced now and it's no big deal.
Your mom or a female relative can help you out and show you how to insert it... : ] Good luck.
I would suggest trying the tampax pearl. It's very simple and you have nothing to worry about. The first few times may be tricky but it's like anything else, once you've done it a few times you'll get the hang of it. You want to make sure you get the right absorbency though, you may need to wear a pad along with the tampon until you find out what's the right kind for you. That way if you got a "regular" absorbency and you bleed the pad will catch it, then you can try a "super" absorbency and see if that works and if that still leaks then try the "super plus". It does not hurt, your first time can be a little nerve racking but you will be happy you did cause no offense but pads suck! Good luck!!
If you are still a virgin it may hurt - I could not use one until I lost my virginity (all girls are different though). I would try using a slim fit one first. Kotex is a good brand I just bought one for sports (because of working out a lot) and I think it was Playtex . The only way you can get TSS is if you leave it in for a long time. You won't forget to take it out because its your first time doing this so its going to be the only thing on your mind. Practice while you are at home - the worst thing is an uncomfortable tampon while you are out and about.
i don't know if this is helpful or not but i'll give it a try... my advice is get the smallest size they have because thats what i tired and, if you put it in all the way, then you probably won't notice it's even there. another thing is the only reason it should hurt is A. its too big B. it's not fully absorbed and C. if you are nervous ( i know that sounds crazy but just try not to tense up and it should come out nice and easy) oh and try using TAMPAX PEARL. ummmm i guess theres nothing left to say but good luck and dont be scared to try it or you will miss out on a lot of fun things!
I was nervous at first too. Relax. Just get a box of Tampax and read the insert, take a tampon out and open it up, look at it. See, nothing to be nervous about. Relax, that's the main thing. I suggest Tampax with plastic applicators, easier to insert than cardboard. Take a deep breath, find the position most comfortable for you, for me it's standing with my knees spread apart, place the tampon slightly into your vaginal opening and press the plunger. You leave the string outside of your body, as long as you can see and/or feel it there is little chance you'll forget the tampon. Tampons don't hurt and are totally comfortable to wear, much more than a pad. Change tampons about every 4 hours and use a washcloth or a feminine cleansing towelette and a personal deodorant spray when you change.
Yeah I know its a journey of learning when you first want to try them - expect to take quite a while getting used to everything and learning what works for you. The first times I tried using them - it was tough I think you get kinda scared and so the muscles are even tighter so it makes it more difficult - try to relax and realize that you really cant do anything disastrous lol. Plan on having a good amount of time and privacy to try it - chances are it'll take a few tries to get it in properly but dont give up. It doesnt really hurt, but the first few times you might feel it more because a.) you dont really know which directions you're sticking it in and b.) those internal muscles havent ever been used before (Im assuming - if you're not a virgin you probably wouldnt be concerned about using tampons for the first time). It shouldnt be uncomfortable - if you can feel it at all when you have it in it needs to go higher - it will feel like omg how much higher can it go but you'll know when it feels right because it'll be undetectable to you. You probably dont have to worry about forgetting about it until you've been wearing them for years - and I mean you will probably go to the bathroom every number of hours anyways and you'll notice the string there and it'll remind you lol. Toxic Shock syndrome - they warn tampon users about it but really its incredibly rare. Just read the info package and know that if you start to feel ever feverish, dizzy, headaches etc take out your tampon immediately just in case. You might want to check out www.beinggirl.com, which has lots of advice on this and just follow the steps on the tampon manual. I'd make sure you stick with plastic to start - much much easier and try juniors sizes or playtex slimfits - very very thin and easier to learn with. You wont regret learning about this - so keep trying it'll make your life a lot easier.
I was the same way, afraid to try tampons but they are a life saver esp. for sports. You can't feel it at all once you get the tampone in all the way, and if you can feel it, pull it out and try again until you master it. I reccomend playtex sport, and don't worry to much about forgetting to take it out. I you are really worried right yourself little notes with a codeword or something.
I've always used Tampax and they work for me just fine. If the tampon is inserted correctly it won't bother you at all. Just read and follow the directions that come in the box - don't worry, you won't push it in too far. You may feel it if it bumps up against your cervix, but that is just for a second and shouldn't cause you pain. If you feel it or it is uncomfortable it probably means you haven't put it in far enough.
It may take a few months to figure out what size tampons you need for your flow - so buy a box with multiple sizes in it.
It is hard to forget that the tampon is in you - you will have a small string hanging out of your vaginal opening to remind you when you go to the toilet. If the string bothers you (sometimes it can get a little caught in your underwear and feel like it's being tugged) - you can kind of tuck it forward between your labia.
There is a remote chance of developing toxic shock syndrome (TSS) with tampons that are left in for days too long - but it is very rare and will go away almost as soon as the tampon is taken out. It's also the first thing a doctor would ask you about if you showed up in the ER with symptoms of TSS.
During your heavy flow times you may want to wear a panty liner in case the tampon leaks a little.
Once you start using them - you will be fine and will appreciate the freedom of activity you can have with them!
Hi! Use tampax. Try the small ones like for light days the first time if you are a virgin its really scary to try putting in the bigger one cause they put more pressure. Because it hurts take your time practice when on your period when you don't have to go anywere. It took me awhile to get it down. Plus you feel weird with something inside of you, if you can't walk with out pain or sit remove it and try it again it's not in all the way. Make sure the string is in the tampon before putting it in. About the forgetting try to keep your wrapper and only trash it when you remove the tampon. So if you have a wrapper this means you have not removed it. Once you get it down you will not ever want to go back to pads. Good Luck
