I don't think you can see it, and I have no idea how far up it is. but you don't have to have sex to break your hymen. You can break it by putting in a tampon or riding a bike. It's not really an important part of the body as far as I know, I have no idea when I broke/lost mine, and I survived. The first time I had sex, no one noticed the lack of hymen.
