Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and weight...hysterectomy may help?
Question:
For a few years, while I was taking BCP consistantly, my weight dropped dramatically (I was also exercising and eating right). It came back almost immediately after stopping BCP (I developed 3 blood clots & from that found I have Factor V Leiden/APCR; am on life-long coumadin therapy). I had gained 50 lbs. in 3 months-I thought it was from the Provera I was on to regulate my cycles.
Fast forward 10 years to now. I weigh more than I ever. I started South Beach in February and lost about 15 pounds, but as soon as I added back in carbs (just the good carbs (glycemic friendly)) the weight came back.
If I lost good weight and kept it off doing the same thing 10yrs ago, but can't this time as I can't take BCP pills anymore, would taking out my ovaries have an impact?
Before I see my gyn in Nov. wanted to see if any info here. TY!

We have a lot in common!!
I am having an ovary with a 12cm cyst removed in a few weeks. I figure that alone will get me 4 pounds lighter. LOL
Nothing has been able to slow or stop it's growth - I've been hospitalized a couple times for pain.
But since PCOS and weight gain are linked, I am hoping for some weight loss. Especially with out those androgens running rampant. Do you think 65lbs is a reasonable expectation?? Ha!
However, if you have both ovaries removed, you go into instant menopause. You might have a more difficult time losing weight at that point! PCOS is more than just the ovaries, so I don't think a total oophectomy is the best answer.
80% of hysterectomies done in the Usa may not need to be done there are other treatments that can help. Removal of the lining of the uterus may and or starving of blood to the cist may do it with out the major surgery.
