Genetics have something to do with your body size but so does lifestyle. If you eat healthy and exercise regulary, you should ba able to keep healthy and not overweight.
My boyfriend's family is all overweight except for him and when he was 12 he weighed 240 pounds. he then realised he did not want to be like his family and ate healthy and exercised. He is now 27 and weighs 175pounds.
It is all in your attitude, if you are focused you can make anything happen...

work out and eat healthy
eat healthy by not over eating and keep off from food high in cholesterol, go on minimum alcohol per week and do not eat in between all the time.
all i can say is exercise and watch what you eat and maybe it will go away
