I could use some advice?

Question:
I need advice on birth control. I am on the pill and i am going to the GYN this week. I kinda want to switch to a different form of birth control...something that i dont have to deal with everyday. I will not use condoms i feel less intimate with them, I am married by the way. I am nervous of the patch i have heard bad things. I have heard the NuvaRing can cause problems during sex and such. anyone have any suggestions on what i could switch to?

Answers:
I, too, went looking for something different from the pill that I wouldn't have to take every day, but I've yet to find anything that would work for me. I'm allergic to adhesive, so I can't use the patch (and I've heard it can cause really bad headaches, depression... lots of things). I tried the ring for a few months, but it really dried me out and sex became rather painful, even when using lube. I've known other people who've used it and love, though, so I don't know that this is a side effect everyone gets. And they won't come loose during sex.

I've heard horror stories about Depo, that it causes major mood swings, more weight gain than normal birth control, and can make it difficult to ovulate like normal once you go off it.

There's IUDs, but there are ethical questions going along with that. You still technically can get pregnant while using them. They just cause your body to "get rid" of the embryo. They also tend to cause heavier periods, from what I've heard.

Sorry this isn't really helpful. I, too, was looking for alternatives to the daily pill and, unfortunately, found that the pill is really what works best for me. It just sucks I have to take one every day and can't use something I only have to deal with every month.

Good luck, though. Maybe your doctor will have other options that I don't know about.
there is a monthly shot you could ask your doctor about- i've heard they work very well. you'd have to go either to the doctors or the hospital to get it.
I have used the nuva ring for years. Best BC I have ever tried. I don't feel it there and neither does he.

BTW, I used the shot for years also, I liked not having a period but you have to be very careful about weight gain. That is why I switched to the ring. If you are prone to weight gain, go for the ring. If weight has never been a problem for you the shot would work great.
You can get birth control shots and I believe you only get one a month and it lasts all month.
if you have had all the children you want, you could get your tubes tied. i did and it was the best thing i ever did. no more birth control to worry about...but of course thats assuming you are done having children
I have tried almost everything and the nuvaring works great for me. Everyone is different but I tell all my friends about the ring and they love it as well.

THE SHOT- I took the shot two times and my hair began to fall out so I quit taking the shot and it took 19 months for me to get my period again!

THE PILL- I gained weight.

THE PATCH- itchy and doesn't stay on the entire week, loses adhesiveness.

THE RING- Love it! The very first time we had sex after begining the ring he felt it and it came out but I think it was only because I didn't have it in right. I have been using it for two years now and have absolutely nothing bad to say about it.
