Thank you for not being sexually active. This would just complicate not only this issue, but your entire life.
At your age, lighter and heavier periods may be possible as your hormones fluctuate due to normal growth. This may actually have been your period, which is the shedding of your uterine lining. Your uterine lining may have been less thick than usual.
You don't mention whether you are on medications, whether you have been sick, whether you have been under more stress than usual, or whether you have lost/gained more than 10 pounds recently. All of these can affect your periods.
If the discharge did not have an unusual or foul odor; if you are not having more cramping than usual; if you are not having a stiff or rigid abdomen or a lot of abdominal pain; or if you do not have a temperature of 101 or above; you may not have cause to worry.
If you use tampons, make sure no fragments or part(s) of the tampons remain in your vagina. Inexpensive (cheap) tampons may break or fragment, causing infections or even blocked menstrual flow.
