Mirena coil?
Question:
Answers:
I checked out a forum on the mirena coil,...as my doc suggested I would probably have one fitted, I've been bleeding non stop for four weeks now. It started five days after a 9 day period had finished
Norethisterone was prescribed but it only slowed the flow.
I was horrified about what i read, the bad side effects
appear to outweigh the benefits.
I had a copper coil too for five years, biggest mistake i made.

have a read and see for yourself, everyone is different, but i know it would be bad for me
Generally, the Mirena IUD will cause moderate to severe side effects in most users in the first couple of months. These side effects have the potential to go away, so I encourage you to stick it out until the waiting period is over, just to be certain.
As for another "cure" for heavy menstrual periods, pretty much any hormonal birth control will help you, not just an IUD.
If you can be patient, your period may stop after about six months and these symptons you have may settle down or disappear. The Mirena coil has hormones in it so that is likely to be the cause of your moods etc. Many of my friends have this coil - some love it others just didn't get on with it.
I had a copper coil (no hormones) for four years - it gave me extremely heavy periods (10 days non stop!), IBS and stomach pains of one sort of another for pretty much the whole month. I had it removed a couple of months back and feel great - no IBS and just a four day period. I would not recommend a copper coil - just in case you are thinking about one! By the way, having it removed is nowhere near as painful as having it inserted. My advice to you is to give it a little bit longer before you have it removed.
Hiya,
I had a mirena fited & only kept it in for just over six weeks - I couldn't stand the pain any longer.
I then had balloon thermal ablation (thermachoice). It burns away the lining of your womb. It is done as a day case so you could go home the same day.
The only draw back is you will have had to have completed your family as you won't have any lining for the egg to impant into.
This is not a 100% sucessful procedure & your lining can grow back after 2 years.
Speak to your gynae people as there are some new procedures in the waiting.
Good luck, you should not have to live with this problem.
