How long are periods supposed to go for?

Question:
mine started last year and im wondering if its still regulating itself? It goes for 3 weeks straight and them skips a month. Should i be worried. is it too long? The last one i had was from may 1st to may 24th and it just started yesterday again and its August 3

Answers:
That is WAY too long. Anytime you get a period that lasts 8 days or more, you should consult your gynecologist.

A "normal" period lasts 3-5 days, but can be as short as two days and as long as seven days and still be considered normal. You should absolutely get yourself to your gynecologist.
i would check with your dr. if your young sometime birthcontrol pills help regulate other wise if your old this is part of menopause
go see you doctor...
average is 3-5 days
If you are bleeding for 21 days, this is pretty extreme. The average period can be anywhere from 3 days to 10 days. I would recommend that you see your doctor.
It's still regulating. I usually takes AT LEAST 2 years to normalize. Don't worry. it will eventually. however, 3 weeks seems a little long. have you talked to your doctor?
Yes, you can be extremely irregular at thge beginning and ending of your menstruation "life". If there is pain or really heavy flow, I would get it checked out by your doc.
well honestly maybe it is adusting to your body, cuz i dont think it's suppose to last that long my goes for a hole week. I dont know maybe you should ask a nurse or a doctor if that's normal. But every woman is different so you never know maybe you got chosen to have u're period that long.
It depends on how old you are, if you are over 16, this is not normal. In either case, go see your doctor, she might put you on birth control pills to regulate your period.
Avg is 4-6 days, maybe you should try the pill, it will help regulate your period.
that seems waaay to long. i would go ask your doctor, mine is always reeallyy long, mine ussually lasts for up to 6-8 days, but i had one in my life when it was two weeks straight but thts the only time it happened. go ask a gynacologist about this.
It is too long. Bleeding for that long can cause you to become anemic (iron poor blood). Go see your doctor.
That's way too long they should last 3-7 days.
