Should you stop Antibiotics if you get thrush?
Question:
thrush should she stop Antibiotics and just treat the thrush?? she can't see her doctor tell next wed.
Answers:
She should call her doctor's office and speak to him or his nurse and found out how to proceed. Let the doctor make that decision. If she also has a bacterial infection it might come back and be harder to kill if she stops it too early. Thrush is a yeast infection which is a side effect of taking antibiotics since it kills off the good bacteria too and gives yeast a chance to grow since antibiotics don't affect it.
No, keep taking the antibiotics, thrush is a symptom of taking antibiotics.
How long was the course of anti-biotics and have they helped the original complaint yet? If she is feeling better stop em and treat the thrush, if not continue for another day and treat the thrush at the same time . . .
happens to me too - bloody annoying !
No, keep taking the antibiotics but buy you some yogurt. It puts the good bacteria in you to help fight off thrush.
No definitely never stop taking antibiotics mid course. Tell her to go the chemist he/she will be able to give her some cream or a tablet provided it is safe with the antibiotics for the thrush.
no anti biotics give some women thrush keep taking them till they finish or they wont work use canesten cream to rub on the outside to stop the itching, then on the last day of the antibiotics get a diflucan tablet and take it it will get rid of the thrush BUT if she has a male partner he has to rub cream inside in penis and round the top also on the last day so he doesnt give it back to her,
Definitely NOT. A side affect of some antibiotics is thrush (I always get this if I take penicillin). She must continue with the antibiotics and go to a chemist and get some Canesten to clear the thrush. She may need to take the Canesten for a while after her antibiotic course just to clear it up. Don't worry - this is completely normal.
No don't stop the antibiotics otherwise the infection may come back!
What i would do is call in your chemist and get some treatment for thrush. You can buy Canestan pessary, capsule or cream from most chemists in UK.
If in doubt speak to the pharmacy.
I would NOT stop the antibiotic
she should finish the course of anti B's and get herself a thrush treatment, and next time she needs anti B's ask for a different type that may not give her thrush....
Yes.Better see the doctor for confirmation of thrush.
You don't specify why she was put on antibiotics in the first place. 85% of ALL antibiotic prescriptions are estimated to be unneccessary, however I have no way of knowing if this is the case here. Without that information the safe answer has to be continue the antibiotics and treat the thrush as well.
Never stop the antibiotics, but you do need to get some canestan thrush treatment available at any local pharmacy. There are actual kits that include pessaries and cream or you can just buy the cream. Failing all of that tell her to go buy some natural live yogurt, (make sure it says LIVE on the pot) and tell your friend to apply it liberally. Above all else keep taking the tablets else the problem she had in the first place could get a whole lot worse. Good luck!, Theres nothing worse than antibiotic induced thrush. In the future your friend may want to tell the doctor that she reacts to antibiotics in this way and they should provide a prescription for an oral tablet such as diflucan at the same time as the antibiotics.
continue the antibiotics and treat the thrush.. eat lots of yogurt or get some canisten..
its a very common effect from antibiotics.. something i've experienced before..
next time you take antibiotics.. just supliment your diet with more yogurt to avoid this happening.
you shouldn't discontinue antibiotics or mess with the times you take them.. they depend on you completing the course to make sure they work.
if your still concerned contact NHS direct or your GP.
no dont stop the antibiotics, if u cant see doc then buy thrush treatment from pharmacy. if u take it before antibiiotics finished then it may come back if so the thrush treatment would need to be repeated.
Don't stop the antiobiotics, but go the the health food store and get some Probiotics. When you take antiobiotics it kills the good bacteria in your system as well as the bad. You need to get the good bacteria back in your system. Probiotics will help that. The best ones are usually kept in the refrigerator in the health food stores. Ask the clerk.
call the office and have the doctor call another antibiotic into the pharmacy along with the oral medication to treat thrush- its a liquid you have to swish around/hold in the mouth about a minute or so before swallowing it. pretty disgusting but not as bad as thrush.
Ask Doctor
no keep taking the full course of antibiotic ask the pharmacy they will be able to advice her on a thrush treatment
