How long does it take for the female body to completely heal after giving birth?
Question:
Answers:
i heard it takes 2 - 5 years for everything to fully recover and be normal again.
I've heard 2 years but not positive. It would also depend on if there were any complications.
Quite a while. I'd say up to a year. But even then your body will never really be the same.
What do you mean "completely heal?" As in how long will it take after birth for your vaginal area to be completely healed or how long it will take for your entire body to get back to a pre-pregnancy condition?
As for your vaginal area, it can be as little as month and as long as six months, depending on the extent of "damage" caused by birth, and as for the rest of you, as another poster said, about two years is average for a new mother to get back to her pre-pregnancy body.
How do you define healing?
At post natal examination we assess whether everything has returned to "normal" and functioning That is has your uterus returned to normal size
Have your periods returned-shows that your hormones are now at pre pregnant state
are you sexually active-therefore at risk of getting pregnant
has your caesarean scar healed or your episiotomy healed-if relevant.
So in that sense you are healed and functioning at 6 weeks.
If however your pregnancy was complicated in any way,if you suffered or were still suffering from depression
If your are breast feeding - you are healthy and healed but not yet returned to a prepregnant state.
I would use these as guidelines -but as always everyone is different and responds to a pregnancy as an individual
Immediate recovery . the point where you can resume all normal activities, is about 6 weeks. Doctors advise waiting at least 6 months before trying to get pregnant again, but your body carried that baby for almost 10 months, so you should expect it to take at least that long getting back in shape.
