Abnormal Pap Smear?

Question:
My latest pap smear came back abnormal. I'm freaked out. My doctor is sending me for more test, but told me not to worry. My "grade" or whatever (abnormality) is very low.

I know that having an abnormal pap can mean you have HVP. However, I had one about 2 years ago that was completely normal. I haven't changed sex partners either and we are completely monogomous.

I also know that an abnormal pap can mean you have cancerous cells in your cervics.

I just dont' know what to think about all of this? She told me not to worry, b/c sometimes after the second set of tests your pap smear is normal again.

Anyone experience that?

Also, about 2 days before my pap smear, I had my period. I was using tampons. Could that have made my pap abnormal?

Opinions? Personal Experiences?

Answers:
OK calm down I went/am going through the same thing! I have been with my fiance for a year and a half, last year my pap was normal, this year abnormal...with mild dysplasia, which is pre cancer cells.I FREAKED, I thought Holy **** I have cancer! Well they wanted to do a biopsy (DO IT, if they ask) It was uncomfortable, but nothing you cant handle, they send the biopsy off and it came back the same thing, mild dysplasia, so the next step is to freeze my cervix (cryotherpy) I went through that (it sucked) but i survived! And I go back in 2 months for my recheck to get another pap to see if it has went away.Trust me your period has nothing to do with it, it IS what it is, and they can take care of it! Esp. since they caught it early you are VERY treatable, you may have to go through what I did, but its worth it not to have cancer!! Please message me if you have ANY questions, I know you are scared, I cried for a week after finding out!!

One more thing...my "grade" was low too, so you prob have what I did...There is Mild, Medium, Severe.we have MILD which is the best to have if we have this.

Ummm It could maybe not be HPV...Mine was HPV, but dont freak 1 in 4 women have HPV!!! Its way too common, a man would NEVER know he had it, so dont get mad at yours like I did lol
I wouldn't freak out just yet. Sometimes doctors send you for MORE tests to squeeze every last cent out of you insurance company. I don't think your period or tampons have anything to do w/ your pap results.***Note also make sure your BF is really monogomous.. you never know.***
The tampons had nothing to do with an abnormal pap as it was cells they took from your cevix not your vagina. Many times it can be caused by a simple infection or other things so don't worry until after you get the results back from the colposcopy and biopsy. Just get these tests done and see what they show. Once you get this all taken care follow the docs recommendations for how often you need a pap smear. I needed one every 6 months for first year or so after my infection was cleared up but am now back to yearly exams. Follow up as recommended. You mentioned that your last pap was 2 years ago so try to not let this happen again as you need a pap yearly. Good Luck.
i would wait a see what the second pap says before you freak. i have heard of them coming back normal after the second one. i had hpv and the froze me cervix and the cancerous cells fell off.that was years ago...i haven't had any problems since. it is sexually transmitted...but i would ask your doctor for more information on that (my doc didn't go into detail). I don't believe your tampon had anything to do with your abnormal pap.maybe the fact that your were on your period and your body was off. Since they are saying it's low grade i really wouldn't freak.that means if there is something...it's easily fixable..GOOD LUCK!
My usually come back abnormal, and it's just a high level of yeast. Got to point, had to use the 3 day yeast infection cream before going in for pap smears. Hope everythings OK!
