How accurate is birth control?

Question:
So i know that a lot of my friends and I take birth control but for medical purposes not for trying to avoid having a baby or something but i dont really know how accurate it is. A lot of my freinds use that as an excuse to get some bc then they can have unprotected sex then the with drawal method but is it safe as people think it is? what is the chances of getting pregnant when you use both of those precautions?

Answers:
If by birth control you mean a hormonal method such as the pill, it is 99.9% effective at preventing pregnancy, but it does not prevent the contraction of STDs, so unless you've had your partner tested, a condom is always necessary.

The withdrawal method of birth control is really not very effective, if your friends want added protection, they should use a condom. When used alone, the withdrawal method of birth control is only about 73% effective at preventing pregnancy, compared with the 85% effectiveness of condoms. I don't think that the withdrawal method adds much protection for them, to be honest.

If a girl doesn't take her birth control consistently and correctly (at the same time every day), the effectiveness can be decreased to about 95%.
well birth control is 99.9% accurate. If you use both methods (withdrawal and birth control) you can really be sure you won't get pregnant. If you use only the withdrawal method you have a higher risk of getting pregnant since the pre-c u m has some sperm too.
Withdrawal shouldn't even be considered a precaution. Precum (semen dripping out before actual ejaculation) has plenty of sperm that can impregnate a woman.

When taken every single day at the same time, the Pill is 99.9% effective at preventing pregnancy. The "normal" effectiveness is about 92%, taking into account missed pills, taking them late, etc.

It does nothing to prevent any STD's, though, so I don't think your friends are being too smart by not using condoms. Especially since, judging by the tone of your question, you're probably still in high school.
