Will douching with just plain water upset your ph balance?

Question:
and would using hand santizer on your hands before touching your vaginal area upset your ph balance?

Answers:
Yes it will. Tap water has a pH on average around 7.5, and no it is not neutral, due to all of the chemicals used in the water treatment process. A healthy vagina has a pH of about 4.2 to 5. If you make your vagina more alkaline by douching with tap water, you are making it easier for infection causing bacteria to survive. Any form of douching washes the good bacteria out and allows the bad bacteria in. You should not be douching unless your doctor tells you to. Using hand sanitizer should not cause any problems as long as you allow it to dry before touching your vaginal area.
IDK about the water but I think this is an excellent question. since water has a neutral ph, it seems that I would be fine, but I just know that you are never supposed to douche. i have wondered the same thing myself. I would avoid the hand sanitizer on that area if at all possible
Generally not. However, douching in general can irritate the vagina.
Hand sanitizer shouldn't cause a problem as long as it dries before your hands come in contact with your vaginal area.
umm yes it would. water is at a neutral pH and your vagina is slightly acidic so yes. using a hand sanitizer shouldn't do anything because a sanitizer just kills bacteria on your hands and its even better to have clean bacteria free hands when your down there.
You shouldn't douche, as the act of douching, even with just water, can push harmful bacterias back up into your vagina. It's okay if you're sitting in a bath and water enters your vagina, but don't push it up there.
I was informed by my OBGYN that douching was no longer thought to be good for women to do. Your body and regular bathing does this for you. Hand sanitizer is mostly alcohol and could cause burning but I don't know about ph balance.
Water is pH neutral 7. But your vagina is acidic, about pH5, so yes, douching with water will reduce the pH in you vagina allowing bacteria and yeast to flourish.

Douching with vinegar isn't any good either though, as the liquid can force bacteria etc which is already in there up into your cervix.

Your vagina actually cleans itself - that's what all that discharge is from.

Not sure about the hand sanitiser, but clean hands are better than dirty. Soap and hot water actually kills 99% of bacteria anyway.
yes
