I"m not having periods/menstruating!?!?!...

Question:
I have always had a longer cycle (up to 40 days) than most women. My previous doctor told me (in 2001) that I shouldn't worry as all women are different. He suggested I go on the pill to regulate my periods which I did. I then came off the pill in May/June 2004. I was on Dianette and my doctor suggested I should not take it for more than a couple of years.

In May 2005 I started taking Dianette again, however in May 2006 I stop taking it (I lived in Japan and it was easier just to use condoms). After coming off the pill my periods were irregular but I expected that. The problem is that I have only had 2 periods so far this year! I have been to a doctor (I live in the states now) but he has referred me to a gynocologist. I now have to wait 12 weeks to see one! My doctor had no idea why I am not having regular periods!

What could be wrong? I AM NOT pregnant

Age: 26
Weight: 7 stones 4 pounds /105 pounds
BMI: 19.2

There are several things to consider here-when you go on the pill you switch your own body off. When you stop the pill it has to switch back on again-one cannot say how long that will be-
You always had a long cycle and I wonder whether you were in fact ovulating-were your periods long but relatively pain free?this would tend to suggest that you were not ovulating
.If you had pain on the first day primary dysmennorhoea-this suggests that you were.

If it was the case that you were not ovulating with a long cycle then taking the pill can cause the sort of problem you have now.
Dianette is a pill brand that is indicated for contraception and acne
Did you have bad acne-and not being insulting are you or were you hairy this with your periods may make me think of polycystic ovaries.

My last thoughts is that you are not very heavy and take a fair degree of exercise-do you eat well?are you concerned about putting on weight? If your body fat is too low that again can cause problems

These are just a few thoughts-I cannot be specific as I have not taken a full history or examined you-do any of the above suggestions appear too fit ?
to slim could be anaemia
Try to get a sooner appt. YOu need to get your hormone levels checked. You could be going thru menopause at a young age, like my mom. She was only 29 when she no longer had periods.
when was your last period? and when was the last time you had unprotected sex... You could be pregnant... are you sure you aren't... If you aren't the only real reason is stress or a blockage your ob/gyn can help but if you start peeing alot and yur breasts begin to hurt I'd check a preg test just in case
Sounds to me like a gynooclogist is the best answer. Do you have kids or anything of the sort, if not then you may not be able to have them, thats what happened to my cousin.
Do you eat a healthy diet, how tall are you, your weight is very light, are you under stress, it could be hormonnes,
Try an Indian GP, who also has a background in ayurvedic medicine. Menstruation has been in Indian reality for thousands of years. back when everyone one from the middle east up to Europe feared and loathed it. If any one knows they do.

Ps. You are underweight, healthy BMI is about 23-4. Could be something to think about.
There are ALL kinds of possibilities, but it is probably associated with the pill use, as this is often a problem area. DO NOT MISS your appointment! You do need to follow up on this, it could be very important. The cause could be as wide-ranging as a vitamin B deficiency, to estrogen problems, to a cancer-related reason, so you need to know, as soon as possible.
ur lucky i wish i didnt have periods coz i av it basically all the time they r really painfull and heavy i wish i woz in ur position. just wait and c wot the dr has 2 say
Could be a number of things but your BMI is low so could be that.

Just old age I guess.
Its all to do with hormaones.. get them checked
