Abnormal Period, Ultrasounds?

Question:
Hi, Im eighteen & ever since I started getting my period at 12 they have been highly irregular. I started out only getting one every three/four months. At 18, Im getting it randomly any where from 14-35 days. When I do get my period, I am a total mess, with cramps that keep wake me up at night crying, week-long diarhhea, overall weakness and nausea, I can just lie in bed for hours wiped out if I had the opportunity (which I never do). went to a gyno and was sent to get bloodwork done, and also a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound. Got my bloodwork done today (while on my period unfortunatly) and totally passed out cold, im not afraid of needles/getting my blood drawn or anything, but I think the combined blood loss, plus me being underweight ( 4'9, 79 pds & NO I don't have an eating disorder) did it. Now I have the ultrasounds left. I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten it for non-pregnancy related reasons, what it was like, does it hurt, and how long would both ultrasounds take?

Answers:
Depends on what they see or don't see. I had a transvaginal back in March...it took about 1/2 hour. They were looking at my uterus because I have a bicornuate uterus.(my uterus is horned shaped or heart shaped). It's a bit uncomfortable but not painful. They place a wand type probe...looks a bit like the one you use on your vacuum (crevice tool) and look around your uterus for abnormalities.

As for the pelvic ultrasound they can either check it out during the transvaginal or they may have you do the "regular" ultrasound. Like they do for pregnant women. I have a small bladder and they make you drink 48 oz of water. Trick is don't start drinking till 1 hour prior to appt time. You know you never get called back when your actual appt time should be. It's a bit uncomfortable with all the water in your bladder and they push on your abdomen to check for abnormalities. Good luck!
if you've been having your period for 6 years and it is still irregular, you HAVE to go see a doctor. I've been getting mine for only a year now, so it's normal for me, but i went to see a doctor anyways. they said if it goes longer than 2 years, see a doctor. don't worry, just talk to a doctor. it'll make you feel better too.
