Does birth control make you gain weight?
Question:
but some people say that since im only 13 & my body is still growing it will make me gain a lot of weight. is it true?
Answers:
Not as much as you would gain pregnant.
Ok, you understand that your body is still growing, right? That is the definition of "child". So why in God's name are your parents putting a child on birth control?
Thirteen years old and sexually active? This is nuts!
it's true that you will add a pound or two but nothing to make you fat!
so you will gain some weight but not a lot!
Um no, not even close. it won't make you gain weight...I've heard in the past, some girls lost weight, not lost weight and became anerexic, but lose couple pounds of time period
One of the side effects of birth control is gaining weight, yes. It happens to most women regardless of age, weight, and body development.
Why are your parents going to put you on birth contol? Its a choice you should make youself...x
well testosterone which is the male thing does i don't know about estrogen.
If you're 13 why do you even need birth control??
Birth control tricks your body into thinking your are pregnant (thus making it impossible to get pregnant "again"), some Types of Birth control can make you more suseptible to weight gain - different medications have different effects - ask your doctor to find out which plan would be best for you.
Not alot of weight, no more than 5 or tops 10 pounds. This would happen only at first due to a shift in hormone levels. BUT the good thing is that you will have very regular periods that are much lighter than what you are probably used to and with much fewer cramps. And you are almost guaranteed not to get pregnant if you take your pills as directed.
**edit**
are people really this ignorant to think that the only reason a 13 year old would go on b/c pills would be to go have tons of sex? One, she could be having tough periods that this would alleviate, and two, she could have very forward thinking parents that would rather use the "preventitave" medicine and leave the choice of when to become sexually active entirely up to the girl without having to have that awkward conversation after the fact.
it's not that you gain weight, you will retain some water, but think about this...if you are sexually active or thinking about becoming sexually active would you rather carry around a 8 pound being in your body for 9 months knowing that you can't do anything about the extra pounds until you have it, or would you rather gain a few pounds on the pill yet enjoy a happy and baby free life?
simple decision for me...get on the pill! plus it will help you with acne and the hormones make your hair grow alot faster!
Some pills cause water retention inthe body, which leads to weight gain. Avoiding sex is the best way not to get pregnant. Using condomns is a better and safer option at your age than using pills.
What kind of birth control method do you plan to subject your self into?
If it is hormonal pills/birth control pills...yes it is true that you will gain weight. that is one side effect of it especially since you are too young.
You are at the peak of your adolescence, subjecting your self to a birth control method may not only affect your weight but your hormones as well.
i'm just curious, why is it that your parents are thinking that way, in fact you are still very young?
Everyone responds to Birth Control differently. I tried a couple different ones when I was a teenager and they all made me gain weight & become very moody! I gained about 30 lbs quickly. I was hating it. I gave it up. I should have tried to find the one that was right for me. Nowadays they have so many more to choose from. I am sure there is the right 1 out there for you. Give each one a chance it will be worth it.
yip!
It is a side effect.
