well sometimes heavy periods can be inevitable, i have the same problem, but u must follow a simple diet 2 weeks prior 2 your period. stay away from household food, salt, coffee, greasy foods, red meat, etc. if u are experiencing cramping, use one of those heating bags and place it on your abdomen, and take 2 advils only when u have pain, they really help alot. dont do a lot of strenous activity and get alot of bed rest. remember that the uterus is a muscle, so u can also give yourself a rub on your belly with vicks vaporub (trust me it works!) so it can stop the contracting also stay away from caffeine because it makes the pain worst!
what u can do to help with cramps is put something cold like an icepack where it hurts or take a cool shower..this always helps me
Exercising helps to slow down periods, for cramps take some Aleve and use a heating pad and try to get plenty of rest, I also drink so warm green tea and that seems to help as well, stress also adds to cramping.
