Question in regards break through bleeding while on birth control pill?


Question:
I've been on this type of birth control pill for a year w/ no problem. This week i've been spotting a little. I haven't missed any pills and not on any type of other meds that would interfere. I took a pregnancy test (like my doctor asked) which came out negative. :) I' m not due to start my period for about a week and a half. I've had weight gain this past year 15 pounds or so...any ideas as to what might be going on.
