Just had the depo?

Depot injection is indeed quite popular at the moment. It is reliable, convenient and only needs one injection every 12 weeks. Its main side effect is that it may cause erratic, and persistent bleeding for the first 12 weeks ( and occasionally longer). Once it settles down it often stops the period all together. which many women find desirable.
Weight gain can occur with any hormone contraception, and I don't think the depot is worse than the others. I dislike the implants, which can be difficult to remove. The other method of contraception that is increasing in popularity is the Mirena, progesterone coil.
The worst part about the injections is that they are for 3 months. even if you have a negative reaction.
With a pill, patch, or "implant", you can stop them if you have a side effect or reaction... but the shot can't be removed.
Most all birth control drugs aren't completely safe... but it's the "lesser of all evils" if you don't want to get pregnant. You're basically exchanging effectiveness for safety (eg. condoms breaking)
Don't listen to the scare mongers. I was on it went off it had another baby, back on it with no side effects whatsoever. Maybe on it for 5 years plus cant remember but wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. It has a plus side to.
It affects everyone differently, just like the pill has. I was on the depo shot for 2 years, I had to get off of it. I was having bad side affects, my body thought it was going thru menapause. I would get hot flashes, no periods, weigh gain, irritability, I was only 18. So I got on the pill, but that made me angry all the time and more weight gain. My friend was on depo and only has some small weight gain. So it does have side effects but they vary from person to person.
Here is a site that you can check out

Should give you some more info on what you want to do. At least you know if you want to change your mind, in 3 months you can tell your doctor you do not want another shot but something different.
I suppose it all depends on the person, i have the implant in my arm that lasts for 3 years, ive had 2 so far, with no problems(touch wood) but i know people who have had to have it removed! you just need to know your own body, if it feels right give it a shot, if you have douts then don't bother!
