When you go to your doctor because you might have UTI, do they ask you if you've had sex?
Question:
What reasons did you give your doctor for having UTI?
What was the real reason why you had UTI?
Did your doctor ask if you had UTI as a result of sexual intercourse?
What other questions did your doctor ask you when you went in because you thought you had UTI?
What type of doctor (what specialization) do you see if you think you have UTI?
Answers:
-You don't need to give a reason
-You can get a UTI for Sex, STD's,not washing properly, holding your bladder, taking baths, certain medication, etc.
-No, my doctor did not ask that, however, she did suggest that I urinate before and after sex to prevent it.
-The doctor asked about my symptoms (ex: frequent urination, burning, etc) and how often do I have UTI (but she'll just look at my medical records)
-I went to my general practice doctor once and the other time I went to my Gyn.
-Good Luck!
They often do ask because having vigorous sex can cause UTIs. If you think you have a UTI you can see a regular general practionar doctor or or a nurse practionar.
1. Usually pain or excessive discharge from the vaginal area
2. Can be caused by many things such as bacteria reaching the bladder causing the UTI, some women are just more prone to it than others
3. The doctor will ask you if you had intercourse, but everything is CONFIDENTIAL
4. What kind of symptoms you were experiencing, how long, when did it start, etc..
5. General doctor can take care of you
They like to know if you are sexually active so that they can tell you how to take preventative steps. With me I was sexually active and didn't drink enough water before and after sex. I just went in and said I feel like I have a UTI. Other reasons that people get UTIs other than sexual reasons is if they wipe after going to the bathroom from back to front. Bacteria from the butt can get into the Urinary Track and cause a UTI. I saw a regular family doctor. They just needed a pee sample. No vagina tests or anything.
1) Symptoms.
2) Real reason? Well, women have a rather short urethra and it just happens sometimes.
3) As a result of sex? Not like that. The doctor may ask if you're 'active' because sometimes UTI's can be a result of sexually transmitted infection in which case your partner(s) would have to be notified and treated too. Most sexually transmitted infections can be easily cleared up if caught early and are nothing to be ashamed about.
4) Just about the symptoms, whether or not I've had one before and whether or not I was allergic to any antibiotics, nothing interesting.
5) A family practice doctor is fine.
I have been to many doctors for UTIs (been getting them my whole life), my GP, doctors at the walk-in clinic etc. They usually don't ask you why you have a UTI. So many things can cause a UTI, it's very difficult to pinpoint the cause. The only thing they've ever said about sex is too pee after intercourse.
When you go to the doctor for a UTI (just go to your GP, no specialist needed) they'll ask you your symptoms and ask you for a urine sample. They'll usually use a test strip to see if you do have a UTI, give you a prescription and send the sample to the lab.
It's only if you are getting chronic UTIs will they start asking more questions. If they can't figure out the cause then you might be referred to a Urologist.
UTI s have nothing to do with sex. They happen for so many reasons. You will give a urine sample, they will screen it, and then tell you what is going on. If they ask you about sex, it is because of something else. OH yeah.your sex life should be between you, your partner and your doctor. Parents are NOT allowed to know anything that goes on between you and her/him. Tell the doctor that you do NOT want your parents to know anything, and they have to obide by your requests.
To answer your question, even virgins get UT Is ,any doctor or nurse practictioner can treat a UTI. Go where it is cheaper for you. Just remember, sex and UTI's have NOTHING to do with each other. You can get them from sex, but not as an STD. It is just something that happens to our urinary tract, and the contamination of that tract, or, lack of water and not using the bathroom enough. One of the best ways to avoid UTI with sex is to make sure you empty your bladder right before and after.
