My mom is having what she calls a 'knot' in the lower left side of her back?

Question:
She's going to the doctor's soon but I'm just curious to find out if it's anything that needs attention. She said it's not really always there, but I asked her if she feels it when she breathes in, and if I can remember correctly she said yes, or atleast sort of.
Someone at her work mentioned the Kidneys?
Also, she's 55 if that helps.

Answers:
It could be a muscle spasm. Tell her to take Advil and try heat on her back. The dr. can tell her for sure but that's something she might want to try until she goes to the dr. You can go to www.webmd.com and www.mayoclinic.com and enter the symptoms. They both have symptom checkers and they can tell you what it might be.
I don't know
Could be lots of things. Is she describing pain, or does she feel some sort of lump in her back? Pain that is aggravated by breathing is typically musculoskelatal, but that is not an absolute.
It may be simple cyst requiring excision..
theres no real answer until the doctor checks it out
I went to the Dr. yesterday and she said I have a pinched nerve back there. I am going to the Chiropracter next week. Maybe this is your mother's problem.
It could be a kidney stone kidney stones are easy to be felt when breathing. if it is a kidney stone she has to take it out immeditely
Hard to say what it could be. There are so many possibilities. Any associated pain? It's so easy to get worried over something that is very minor but she is definitely doing the right thing by going to the doctor to have it checked!
