Are my periods normal?

Question:
am 17 year old and I am a vergin. I have really irregular periods. I don't have my period but once every 6 or 7 months or so, or even longer. I asked my parents but said that it was normal. I am starting to doubt it. Please help me on this issue or how to make it regular.

Answers:
hi
I got my period about 8-9 yr ago and it's still isn't regular :P
before I also could have months and months inbetween two. And I know it really sucks not knowing when it's coming and being scared that something is wrong. But it's, like ur parents are saying, normal. Today I have between 30 and 60 days inbetween, and as far as I know, there isn't anythhing u can do. I know some of my friends are on the pill just to make sure it's regular, but that's way wrong reason to use them. And I wouldn't advice u to do it. But if it's really troubles you go and see someone. But as long as the periods otherwise ok, no change in the stuff coming out (sorry my english sucks) or no change in smell or so, I'd say everything is ok. It also depends on how long u've had it, it might change after a while. I had a friend who got her period three- four times the first time, but then it stoped and came back after a few years.

Hope I've help some...(doubt it though)
Take care
It is normal. You can go on the pill to try to regulate it, that is probably what youre doctor will suggest.
Every woman is different. Mine don't come the same time each month. Sometimes there are months inbetween. Tell your mother you are worried and would like to see a doctor. They can prescribe you sometime to help regulate. It's your hormones causing it.
It's not Unusual for it to be Very Irregular when one is Young, until it settles in Naturally. People treat it like it's supposed to be a Clock, but it's Not!

Birth Control pills are usually used to make it more Regular, but I doubt you need it. They would be Prescribed by a Gynecologist, who who tell you it is Normal, anyway.

Most Ladies I know would Love to have that "Problem". Look at it as a minor Blessing!
If you are REALLY thin or athletic, it could be normal... but otherwise at this point if you're 17, they should be starting to become more regular.

Talk to your doctor. He or she may prescribe you birth control pills which will regulate your cycle. Trust me, lots of girls and women are prescribed birth control for things other than birth control.

Another option to look into is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have this. It basically means that there are cysts on your ovaries. The signs are:
- irregular menstrual cycle
- weight gain
- persistant acne
- high cholesterol ratio
- high testosterone level

The last two signs can be checked with blood work. It's nothing really fatal but is quite annoying do to the weight gain, and the irregularity of the menstrual cycle can cause a woman to have a hard time becoming pregnant later in life. That's where birth control comes in again. ;) Ironically enough, the hormones in birth control will help down the road when a woman wants to try and have a baby.

The best thing for you to do is schedule an appointment with your doctor or at a women's clinic and talk to them about it. Good luck!
