First Pap test?

Question:
Im going for my first pap test tomorrow, and Im really nervous! I am scared that it will hurt, is there any advice to help keep my mind off of it while the procedure is being done?

Answers:
it doesn't really hurt. you might be less sensitive if your sexually active, but it does hurt much either way. Its just a really uncomfortable feeling in your tummy, not to mention the embarrassment of being examined down there. Don't worry he or she isn't looking for any satisfaction they are just making sure your healthy down there. They will talk to you about everything. My thought is always you want to talk about what when you are where.ha ha. any ways if the doc is a dude a nurse has to be in there too. And usually a pap doesn't come out abnormal without out you already knowing something is wrong. hope this helps.
Just relax and don't think about what is going on, it is over quicker than all the time you have wasted worrying about it!!
a little scraping and pressure only, but embarassment too, as your crotch is exposed, feet in the stirups...

best of luck to you
My first time I held my hands over my eyes and didn't look to see what they were doing. Most of the time the doctor will try to talk to you about everyday stuff (where you go to school/work, clothes, etc) to get your mind off of your nervousness. Just think about whatever it is that calms you most.
oh gosh, thank god I don't need mine for another year. Well it takes like 30 seconds.
First of all, good for you to take care of your health like that! Secondly, it honestly takes no time at all .. by the time the doc gets started, they are done. Just take a deep breath close your eyes and count to 10. it doesnt hurt. It's a little uncomfortable, but not painful. Good luck, you will be fine and afterwards you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
:-)
being your first your going to be nervous no matter what. take yourself somewhere else in your mind and try your best to relax.i have had 2 i found that the first time it did hurt a little {sorry}but the second was ok maybe it depends on where you go.
It doesn't hurt, and it takes about 30 seconds to complete, so remember that. Try to relax your thighs and take deep slow breaths.

Good Luck!
It shouldn't hurt, if inserting the speculum hurts, ask the doctor if she has a smaller sized instrument to use, if possible. The whole thing should feel just a teensy bit uncomfortable, but not even close to unbearably so. If you're really worried about it, take a couple Ibuprofen a half hour before your exam. Remember to relax, because if you're tense, it's more likely to be a bit painful.
I remember mine, I got worked up over nothing. Its so fast you wont even believe how quick its over. Just relax and look a how sad their posters are... =p
Pap tests don't hurt. It is so quick and painless, I wish all procedures were this easy.
It doesn't "hurt" like a needle prick or stubbed toe hurts, but it is pretty uncomfortable for most women, and some women find it profoundly uncomfortable.

Consider taking a mild muscle relaxant before you go in, or practice meditation during the procedure. The irony is that they keep telling you to relax! =P Be sure to tell the nurse that this is your first time and you're really tense.
Talk to someone who's had one before, and talk with your doctor beforehand.
