Yes, it's embarrassing, but still, your sister should see a doctor. If she hasn't had this problem before, she needs to get it properly diagnosed. The wrong over the counter treatment might make it worse.
treatment for yeast infection. suppository?
There's a new test you can get OTC at the drug store (by monostat i think) that you can use to test whether the infection is yeast or bacteria. Ask the pharmacy if you can't find it. If yeast, use OTC meds, if bacterial, STD and you need to see a doctor.
Eat yogurt for 3 days. If that don't do it, get to an ob/gyn. I'm guessing you won't need to. The active acidopholis in yogurt kills the yeast growing in your vagina. You don't need over the counter stuff to get rid of it. You can even douche with some of it to stop the itching almost immediately, then eat more yogurt for 3 days to catch it all. If you have been on antibiotics, this may be the reason you got the infection. Some antibiotics kill off some of the good bacterias along with the bad, and yeast infections are a common result. , ,I also used to work in a pizza parlor and handling pizza dough with live (rising) yeast means you should wash your hands before AND after you go to bathroom. (I know, no one ever told ME either.)
Good luck,

This sounds a lot like a yeast infection but I would recommend that she sees the doctor to have this confirmed before trying anything over the counter like Monistat. I know that it can be uncomfortable to see the doctor to have this checked out but I would recommend that she see a female physician about this issue. I think she would feel more comfortable discussing this issue with a female physician.
Get tested. and find out what kind of problem it is before asking for a solution.
Monistat OTC for yeast infection. Have her try the course and if her symptoms are not better, she should see the doctor. Too, she should not have intercourse while she is being treated, either by the OTC or the doctor. She needs to focus on her health then worry about her BF later.
