When I started my period back in the seventies, all my older girlfriends thought that any type of pad was gross and old fashioned, therefore when I started my period they convinced me that I should immediately use a junior tampon. Wish I had talked to my mom about this because I can say that I can vividly remember trying to get that tampon in at 13 years old and how stressful it was. I couldn't find the "opening" because there was none. I remember thinking that there must be something wrong with me.It took over an hour and a half and was very painful. What I didn't realize at the time is that I was breaking my own hymen in order to get that tampon in. Your hymen is that small bit of skin that covers the vaginal opening that is present before a girl has sex. I still would have ended up using tampons later, prior to having sex, but I definitely would not have started out with them from the first moment I bled.
Don't know if this was any help, but keep in mind you do what you feel is best, try the pads first, if you don't feel they are giving you adequete protection, then you may want to advance to tampons a little later.

but you should wait untill your period becomes ragular, and it become like not so gross and new to you. b/c then, this wont be so wired when you try it.

I started the first time I had my period and have been using them for years. I don't see any problem with using them. Really it makes things so much easier and you can go swimming!!

it doesn't matter, there is no age because everyone has their period at dif. times. I mean you could wear one when you feel comfortable with one in.
whenever you get your first period. it doesn't matter how old as long as you are on your period and be sure that you read how long you can wear it because you don't want it in you for too long.

Doesn't matter the age. Just knowledge of putting them in and knowing how long to take them out. Simple, you should try them.
age doesn't matter, but beware of TSS, toxic shock syndrome. it's a deadly disease caused by lengthy use of tampons, some kind of septic shock. as a physician i recommend using regular sanit. s and just use tampons when you want to go out FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
