Every time I take anti-biotics i get a terribe yeast infection!?!?
Question:
This time, i didnt get to go out and get yogurt! I have a TERRIBLE yeast infection. I'm using Monistat every night. I'm going to go to the store tomorrow to buy the new monistat that you can take during the day time ..
To relieve some of the terrible itching, my mom suggested sitting in a warm bath with baking soda. I did that - but you can only sit in a bathtub for so long. plus obviously that wont work while im at work.
Any suggestions asside from the anti-itch creams that i have?
Answers:
First, get a diagnosis of a yeast infection from a health care provider. Your provider will recommend a treatment.
Antibiotics, such as penicillin, erythromycin, tetracycline, and amoxicillin, are used to treat and prevent infection by killing and inhibiting the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics can also increase your susceptibility to yeast infections, as you well know, because they change the vagina's natural pH, which is normally slightly acidic, and kill off healthy bacteria. A change in acidity creates or allows for an overgrowth of yeast.
Ways to Prevent Vaginal Infections
Strengthen your immune system through exercise, a balanced diet, and enough sleep to increase your body's defenses against infections.
Wash your vulva and anus with mild soap and warm water every day.
Avoid perfumed soaps, feminine deodorant sprays and cleansers, and tampons and pads with deodorant.
Do not douche. Douching can wash away the healthy bacteria lining the vagina, as well as alter the vagina's natural pH level.
Use only plain white unscented toilet paper.
Keep your sugar and caffeine intake to a minimum (too much can upset your natural pH balance).
Wear underwear, tights, and pantyhose with cotton crotches. Tight clothing creates warmth and moisture which are favorable for the growth of yeast or bacteria.
Wipe yourself after urinating from front to back so that bacteria from your anus will not get into your vaginal area.

Eat lots of yogurt while on the medicine.
tell your doctor about the anti biotics.. that happened to me too and they gave me a new one that worked well and didnt give me the horrible side effect.
I've always used monistat for infections and it goes away within a day, 2 at most. Since it's not going away for you, you may want to consider asking your doctor. Try vagisil in the meantime, but that infection has got to go away. Don't ignore it
You should call your doc and see if he will call you in a prescription for Diflucan, assuming that you are not allergic to it.. it is a pill that will usually cure your yeast infection up in one dose... hope this helps...
you are allergic to penicillin your doctor can give you alternative med's other then what you have if you tell him what happens every time you take that med
Always tell your doctor b4 going on antibiotics that you are prone to yeast infections, as am I. The store brand is just as good as monistat. They have a 3 day as well as a one day but you want it to last for as long as you are on the antibiotic. There are some that sell including an outer cream and you can mix it with some of the inside cream. It helps alot. Keep eating yogurt. If you read through a health food store online or an herbal store I'll bet you can make up your own natural concoction (for next time, perhaps) But a Tea called
Pau D'arco at a health food store, not generally expensive, sweeten w/honey, has a bit of a bitter taste and allow to steep a good 12 minutes every morning and every night, appears to be almost a cure all!! It tastes kind of icky but you get used to it, 1 cup twice per day! try it, it certainly can not hurt! Good luck.
Yep, it'll happen everytime because the anti-biotics not only kill the bad bacteria but also the beneficial ones that keep yeast at bay! Sorry no help to k eep the good bacteria well when taking anti-biotics.
Antibiotics are just that, Anti. They kill your good and bad bacteria, so that a fungi like yeast over grows and your good bacteria are killed off so they don't keep the yeast in check. You might want to try a Holistic approach. Cut out bad carbohydrates which yeast feed off of, use Probiotics, to replenish your good bacteria, which you can purchase from a Health food store, and Oreganol, which kills fungi, like yeast.
Eat probiotic foods while you're taking the antibiotics (actually, all the time is better!) http://www.mamashealth.com/nutrition/goo... explains it all and here are some great food sources for probiotics:
Yogurt
Buttermilk
Kefir
Tempeh
Miso
Kim Chi
Sauerkraut
Other "fermented" foods
If you already have a yeast infection, get the OTC treatment and use it as directed AND take your probiotics. There is no need to buy supplements if you like the above foods as they are rich in bacteria and healthy to eat/nutritious.
Acidophillus pills. They are supposed to put the good bacteria back in your body. Also yogurt.
