Is there a chance that after 15 yrs uterus cancer cells re-growth?

Question:
A mom of my friend had uterus cancer 15 years ago and went through chemo-therapy. After the therapy period she was normal. Recently, my friend was afraid that the cancer cells were re-growing. If the cancer cells are re-growing would it be possible to do chemo-therapy second time around? i've heard that if people who pass the period of 10 yrs with out anything happen most likely the person will survive ,but my knowledge in medince is very very limited. Is there any doctor out there can help me anwer the question ? thxxxx

Answers:
There is no permanent "cure" for cancer. Someone can be in remission for years and it can come back.
She should continue with regular check-ups. If she's having symptoms that she believes to be that of cancer...she needs to see her dr ASAP! Early detection improves survival rate.
Chemo/radiation can be done again if need be, she could have a hysterectomy...the main thing is, she needs to see her doctor.
Yes, a good possibility. This is why some people remain in remission from cancer, and for no reason, it returns.
The best thing to do is consult your doctor.

I'm not a doctor but a cancer patient and it's not entirely unheard of..esp with ovarian cancer. In fact we had this discussion yesterday at Starbucks with a woman also with cancer. We got talking over an article in the New York Times titled Cancer Patients, Lost in a Maze of Uneven and Complicated Care. See if perphaps you can look it up. Her cancer has been back 3 times. Threre is always a chance that cancer cells will be floating around waiting to replicate, it depends on the treatment at the time. 15 years ago was a long time and things have come a LONG way. Better testing, medications and treatments. And while I'm not that sure specifically about uterine cancer, i know mine and ovarian cancer do and have had repeat chemo treatments if they find more cells after treatment. Hope this helps.
