Should Provincial Medical Insurance cover cosmetic surgery?

Question:
I live in BC, Canada, I read in the paper the other day that MSP covered 90% of the cost to correct a botched circumcision. Now, his problem was quite unique and I can understand why the operation was covered - he claimed to have experienced great pain and couldn't maintain an erection because of it. But wouldn't this open the door so to speak for small breasted woman to have breast enhancement done and paid for by the government? If she claims it causes her psychological pain when she looked in the mirror and her husband can't maintain an erection because of it?

Answers:
No. It is one thing to correct a painful prolem that prevents an organ from functioning, it is quite another to change something because the owner doesn't think it is attractive enough. The botched circumcision meant the man could not use his penis. Larger or smaller breasts are matters solely of appearance (and opinion). If her husband has an ED problem, he can and should be treated (with Viagra, etc.) for *his* problem. Again, he has a difficulty functioning, and his wife does not.

Other Answers:
you should be a barrister.. LOL
That's a BIG stretch. Cosmetic surgery for reconstructive purposes (i.e. fixing a botched circumcision or fixing a broken nose) is one thing, but cosmetic surgery just for vanity purposes (i.e. breast enhancement) is QUITE another. Insurances don't even have to cover the reconstructions - many do, but it's not easy to get it to happen.
Circumcision is always a risk....and I don't advise it for anyone...but this guy should have had his 100% of his bills paid for. But small breasted women can function just as well, and there is nothing wrong with them.
His problem was the result of a forced circumcision when hewas caught masturbating when he was eight years old. Basically he was grabbed and his foreskin chopped off. It was a savage act and as you said "quite unique". But the facts are that very little cosmetic surgery is covered by MSP even some things that you would consider necessary to live a normal life. Our medical system is geared to doing only the most basic to maintain life, you pay for anything else and sometimes that means paying for life sustaining drugs out of your own pocket.
Cosmetic Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges cosmetic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible.

As a doctor i personally believe that your cosmetic surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.If you still havent got your surgery done, you are better off getting it done in India.

my cousin got her breast reduction/liposculpture/buttoc... lift surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare.she is more than very happy with the results.she just paid 30% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise fore this forerunners healthcare company.i personally have seen the wondeful results and am particularly impressed with the kind of quality care she got from this company.I am sure they will help you also with the best.be
