Question:
I went to the dr this morning and he is sending me to a specialist for diesaes and surgery of the retina and i am very scared. I have never had surgery before and it might have to be my eye!

Answers:
I had surgery when I was about 14 years old to correct a Lazy Eye.

Be open with your dr. If you have questions before the sugery ask them before you're admitted to the hospital.

What they usually do prior is give you something to relax you either the night before or before surgery. When in surgery they give you anesthesia to make you go into a good deep sleep. You don't feel a thing during surgery.

After surgery you're taken to a recovery room where you stay with nurses on watch while you wake from the anesthesia. After that you're taken to your room to rest.

Just take it easy the first two days, don't rush anything. It took me about a week to feel better, I think I had to wear my eyepatch about a week to two weeks, it's been so long I don't recall all the details. Mine was done in the early 1980's today's surgery is much more advanced and recovery time is usually a lot sooner. It also depends on the surgery you're having.

I know you mentioned it's for retina surgery. If it's a detached retina, you definately want to get that fixed. If it's other retina surgery, unfortunately I don't know any others or info to help. But your eyesite is very important.

Again, discuss any concerns with your dr. that's always good to do.
